The thread that started it all.
I followed this thread from my favorite website, Calguns, and this thread is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. For a very long time. LOP was the main reason my M4 doesn't get much range time.
Me and my Benelli eagerly await your finished product.

Mitch,
I am part of that LE agency, and got to shoot the M4 with your stock. I loved it and the size difference made all the difference for me. I had no need for a cheek riser. When will I be able to get one?????????

We are about to produce the second prototype, the one with the cheek riser. It will fit the Benelli M1/M2. Assuming the next stock works out, we should be pretty much finished with the design. We hope to begin tooling next month and might see production in March, probably April.
We will probably make a third and final prototype in the meantime, for the Remington 870, and we'll send that to you guys as well.
Some feedback from the LE testing:
o Push button sling swivel is an issue. We intend to make it optional, but we have also lowered it and the next proto will have it so that we can see whether the new position alleviates the problems with it hitting the shooters' noses.
o First thing the testers did with the stock was break it! We should have supplied a washer with the mounting bolt. The armorer put his own washer in with the broken stock and it worked fine.
o Oddly enough, the Limbsaver pad we were so proud of appears to be unsuitable for rapid semi-automatic fire. So we have developed a standard hard rubber buttpad. This may all be just as well, since to accommodate the very long recoil spring tube in the Remington 11-87, we had to add 1/4" to the LoP of the stock. But with our own custom buttpad we can get that 1/4" back. So the production system will feature a hard rubber buttpad as standard, or an optional Limbsaver pad that will add 1/4" to the LoP.
o Aside from these issues, the testers just love the stock. I think we have a winner.

Thanks for the update. Are you bringing this stock to SHOT this year? Any possibility that you will be releasing a desert tan color version upon release?
Thanks
See yuat SHOT I hope.

Yes, we will have a non-functional prototype on a Benelli M2 in our booth at the SHOT Show (booth # 20210). It will feature the adjustable cheek riser.
Current plans are for the Benelli M4 stocks to be available in black and coyote.
Because these items are injection molded plastic, from the same mold, all the variants should be available at the same time.

Tell me that's NOT simulated wood grain on that beautiful stock.

Naw, it's an artifact of the SLS (3D lithography) process.
The way the proto is built up is by adding material layer by layer, and this results in a sort of woodgrain texture. Think of how a laminated stock looks compared to a solid wood stock. Same thing going on, sort of.
The coppers who are testing it complained about the woodgrain too.

Bless you people, BLESS YOU ! Been trying to find a better fitting/shorter stock for my M1 since the early 90's. And now the M4 is an option.

any chance for the collapsible stock? is it still in the works?

It's on hold, but much of what we learn and produce for the Urbino stock will be applicable to the collapsing stock, should we decide to produce it.

Wow. I really have nothing to add except AWESOME..

I handled the prototype at the show on the M2. The LOP is excellent. I don't think the QD mount will hit my nose under recoil either.
One thing that I wasn't clear on was:
The rubber grip. Is it the Benelli Factory rubber overmold grip, or are you supplying an aftermarket one? The one on the prototype felt smaller than the factory pistol grip. If it is being replaced, why? It seems logical to use the slip on factory one.

Smaller is probably better.

We will be duplicating the factory grip as closely as possible.
The prototype you tried at the show was a mistake. I messed up on one of my measurements and ended up with a grip that was too small (AggiePhil: the prototype grip really was too small for normal-sized hands). The final grip will be larger.
We are producing a new grip because, first, we are not just making this stock for the Benelli platforms, but also for the Remingtons. Remington owners won't have a factory grip they can remove and used on the Urbino stock. Secondly, even many Benelli customers won't have factory grips they can use, either because they are replacing straight stocks, or because they are justifiably reluctant to dismantle their factory stocks.

This tells me that the final production model is probably further away than previously thought. :-(
