Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

Mitch - Thanks for being so honest and open about the process!

It is great that the price points will be better than expected and that the basic versions will ship soon. However, for many of us, the primary reason for buying the Urbino will be for the cheek riser. The LOP improvement is good, but the raised comb is critical! Please keep working on the cheek riser/limbsaver version, don't give up! big_smile

(Cash in hand for a black cheek riser/limbsaver version for my M4!)

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

Oh, I'm hoping the cheek riser version takes another week or two longer than the basic version.  It's not it's a huge problem, it's just that we had some extra work to do on it.  Again, once we have finalized the part we will have to send the mold out for surface texture.

The only thing delaying the Limbsaver pads is the extra time it will take to send the buttplates to Limbsaver for them to glue the pads on and send them back to us, that's all.  The basic buttpads we assemble ourselves.

Maybe this is a dumb question but think you will make a similar stock in a "field stock" config, i.e. no pistol grip?

Hi, I was wondering if you have measured what the overall length of the M4 will be with your stock?  Debating if the collapsible stock gets me anything.

Another crazy thought could we use the mesa pistol grip with the factory collapsible stock?

We have had requests for a straight stock from LEOs who don't like pistol grips.  Such a stock will be nearly as ambitious as the Urbino Tactical stock (a straight stock would be called something else).  We will have to see how successful the Urbino stock is before we can commit to anything like this.

Since our Benelli M4 is at the injection mold company right now, we can't measure its overall length.  All I can say is the length of pull (distance between the trigger and end of the buttstock ) will be 12.5 inches.  If you have a Benelli M4, you can work out the overall length from that.

Sure, though I'm not sure why you would want to.

Well, I will leave it to the 922r experts on the Benelli forums as to whether a grip sleeve will count toward US parts count.

But we will indeed be making the grip sleeves available as replacement parts, and also in case people want different colors.

We have published the new price list.

These are the prices everyone who has pre-ordered will be charged when we actually ship.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

Yea I did a lot of reading on 922r and just got off the phone with the ATF agent.  So consensus is 13 parts for fixed stock, 14 with separate stock and pistol grip.  So with your grip, titanium mag tube and follower, and surefire foregrip that's 9 parts. Leaving one precious spot for the stock if you so choose!

That is unless Arizona suddenly decided to cede from the union.  smile    You'd have the 4th largest Air Force in the world if you did so too ironically with the bone yard being out there. smile

My bad I must have read it wrong.  I thought you guys sold a US made complete pistol grip not just the sleve.  I don't think the "rubber sleeve" counts.

Mitch,
Any plans for an OD green model for the M4? The price points are great. Much appreciated.

No immediate plans for OD for Benelli.  We have prepared part numbers for both OD and coyote for Remington though.

We will have to see how well these colors sell.

Hmm, so it uses the benelli grip?  I thought you guys were making the grip and stock separate, I realize I'd have to buy them as a unit.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

We are making a separate grip sleeve, just as with the factory Benelli stocks.  Our grip sleeve will fit the Benelli stocks, and vice versa.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

Hmm I wonder if you could make versions that are cut to accept the coll stock? Or could I just dremel one and mount my stock?   I'd pay just for that so you could build a 922 compliant weapon.  Short of machining a custom piston set, there's only three us made parts on the market for the M4 that I can find. And we'd need a 4th to take the place of the coll stock. Either way I plan on purchasing one as is for my NY tour, so i'm crazy blue state compliant.

Shhhh...don't distract Mitch from the worthwhile endeavors.  Mesa may even come out with its own telescoping stock at some point anyway.  That'd be a lot better than spending $500 on the Benelli stock too.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

The grip sleeve for the factory fixed stock is the same as for the collapsing stock, so our grip sleeve will fit both.

But I still think it's a stretch to say the grip sleeve constitutes a compliant part.

Also, our grip sleeve isn't marked with country of origin.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

The Benelli M4 version should appear next week, so I think it could take as long as 60 days for the Remington version (the Benelli M1 will be before the Remington).  But since all the hard work is done, they could surprise us with the next two platforms since all they need to do is make the mold inserts for the part that meets the shotgun (the rest of the stock is the same for all platforms; it was basically this aspect of the design, that a single stock should be developed for a variety of platforms supported with mold inserts, that made the molds so complicated and so hard to build.  But it should pay off in the end).

By the way, we might be ahead with the cheek riser.  I just this evening got my hands on the first articles of the redesigned cheek riser.  There is a slight problem, in that the cheek riser is a little difficult to remove from the stock when installed in its lowest position (nothing a little banging with the butt end of a screwdriver couldn't remedy), but otherwise it looks like it's done.

257.jpg

This is the first clear photo of the Urbino's cheek riser mechanism.  It's insanely simple (though surprisingly hard to get right in plastic).  There are horizontal rails on each side of the main stock armature that support the cheek riser, which is fitted with multiple slots on its inner surfaces.  The height of the cheek riser depends on which slots are slipped over the rails.

Once the cheek riser is pushed all the way forward, it is held in place by the buttpad assembly.  This is the main reason why the buttpad is designed to snap on and snap off.  In the photo you can see how the special buttplate has little "wings" on each side to keep the cheek riser in place.  It's secure as hell.  Standard buttplates don't have those "wings."

In this photo you can also see the SureShell carrier attached to the cheek riser.

Re: Urbino Tactical Stock production status (was: July)

Yes I saw mesa was originally working on a coll stock, but this was easier first.  Hopefully now that the fitment issues are worked out, it's only a matter of stopping the mold for the grip with nice contours and then making a stock.  Having just the grip would be an awesome first step, at least that way there would be 4 artermarket parts and 922r can go away.

In the mean time...

Mitch,  I assume this utilizes the factory buffer underneath?  How ugly do you think it would be to dremel down the stock so it's the same as the factory grip and then use the factory coll stock?
