SYSTEM CONCEPT AND PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Use Mesa Tactical’s collapsible stock kits and adapters to install AR-15 adjustable buttstocks and pistol grips onto the venerable Remington 870 and Mossberg 500/590 shotgun platforms for the ultimate in tactical shotgun configuration performance.
Equipped with the Mesa Tactical stock adapter, the shotguns have an adjustable length-of-pull to perfectly fit to the shooter’s stature or equipment, such as body armor; feature handling characteristics similar to the ubiquitous AR-15; are more compact for transport and storage; and are more controllable due to the pistol grip configuration.
There are two lines of Mesa Tactical telescoping stock adapters:
1. High-tube® telescoping stock adapters, that require the use of rail mounted optics;
2. LEO® telescoping stock adapters, which feature a stock elevation about an inch lower than the High-tube adapters and so don’t require sighting or aiming aids.
These adapters are available in two types of kits, adapter kits or complete stock kits.
Our High-tube adapters have a comb height equivalent to an AR-15 and require an optics rail (available separately). These specialized adapters are for certain law enforcement applications or competition. High tube adapters allow proper cheek weld and eye alignment with popular optics such as an ACOG or Leupold CQT and others. High-tube adapters and stock kits include an optional nine inch top Picatinny optics rails. The 9 inch rails can optionally be secured to the shotgun receiver as well as the stock adapter. No gunsmithing is required to install. Minor fitting of fasteners may be necessary.
The concept is simple: the shotgun stock is replaced by an adapter that mimics the stock attachment point of an AR-15 lower receiver. This adapter accepts an AR-15 receiver buffer tube. The AR-15 collapsible stock and pistol grip can then be reliably attached to the shotgun.
Stock kits additionally include an M4 Carbine style telescoping buttstock assembly, an ERGO AR pistol grip, a stamped steel stock wrench and a push-button sling swivel. A slip-on rubber butt pad for the M4 Carbine buttstock is available separately.

I’ve bought two over several years. The quality is top notch and solid. These go on weapon systems that I rely on to protect and defend. So my component choices must be a no compromise quality and I get that time and time again from Mesa Tactical.
I found this stock while looking for something to fit an older shotgun of another brand that has been passed down through the family. I liked the look and idea behind the stock so much I bought the stock and then bought a Mossberg 500. In fact, I bought the High-tube adapter twice (more on that later). The installation and instructions are very straight forward, though I did encounter several issues which kept this from being a 5-star review. First and foremost, do NOT pay for the UPS Ground shipping. I paid more than $20 each time for UPS shipping on both of my orders and but they both came via Priority Mail, the dreaded snail mail. I’d argue that the free option would’ve arrived just as fast. I really did not like that I paid for one shipping option and it was substituted with no notification. Especially noting that it took almost twice as long as UPS normally takes. The 2nd issue was also mentioned by the previous reviewer, which was the not enough or in the case of my second order completely missing hex head screws to cover the opening on both sides forward and aft of the double-ended flush cups. I feel this is more of a cosmetic than a functional thing, but it does speak to quality control. The 3rd issue was a very bad burr in the threading on the adapter at the location the pistol grip screw. This was present on both of my orders, which lead me to wonder if it is an issue in the cast for the Mossberg High-tube (again, could this be a quality control issue?). Hence the reason for my two orders. I attempted to install the pistol grip on the first adapter I ordered, I noticed the zinc covered screw became extremely tight while attempting to run the screw in. After backing the screw out and trying to run it in with my screwdriver again the drive portion of the zinc covered screw head started to strip. So I removed it an then decided to use the black oxide coated hex headed screwed included with my pistol grip. BIG MISTAKE!! It seized inside of the adapter. I attempted to back it out, but it would not move. I eventually cut off the pistol grip and attempted to drill the screw out but damaged the High-tube adapter without removing the screw. At this point I was committed to this build, so I placed the 2nd order. During the build of the 2nd adapter I noticed the same issue with the pistol grip screw but this time I decided not to chance it, so I made a run to a local auto parts store and bought a 1/4 - 28 TPI tap to clean up the threads. Viola! Problem solved. I still love the way this adapter looks; it felt good in my hands once assembled. I’ve read complaints about not being able to work the slide release action on Mossberg shotguns, however, I was able to do so. Of course, I have big hands and only had to adjust the stock slightly inside the pocket of my shoulder to do so. I found a product made by Shoten Armory, a Long Arm Extended Slide Release Lever that solves this problem for people with smaller hands. My daughter and wife are even able to operate the action with this modification. In closing, great product with a unique look but several minor quality control issues and problems with shipping. Works and looks very well though!
Installation was fairly simple and straight forward. Would have liked to have more hex head screws for both sides and top. Functions well and keeps barrel in line with the stock as promised. Much better than the competition!
